The 1995 film Old Indians Never Die tells the story of two great passions - Indian Motorcycles and the grandeur of Scottish scenery.
The documentary told the story of how hundreds of people from all over the world, led by Alan Forbes in the UK and fellow enthusiasts in Germany, assembled at Traquair House with 350 machines and celebrated the legacy of a historic motorcycle in historic surroundings.
Since 1901 man has had an enduring love affair with these splendid machines, and enthusiasts worldwide refuse to let it die. As a celebration of its survival, 100 owners from around the world converged on Scotland in the first international rally of its kind. A fascinating film of traveling by Indian, the informed commentary (in German and English with subtitles) and nostalgic footage brought to life the mystical aura surrounding these legendary machines.
The 2009 event will recapture the spirit of that special event - but promises an even more rewarding experience.
Alan Forbes still works with Indians and is co-ordinating the rally. "Passion for these motorcycles matures with age," he says. "The following is growing rather than dying as time goes by. We thought it was time to arrange another celebration, and it's perfect to stage it at Traquair House again, where it all came together so well 13 years ago."
